Greycoat Stresses Importance of Tenant Awareness on Renters Bill
New research by the TDS Charitable Foundation, presented in an article from Greycoat Real Estate, shows a lack of renters’ awareness about the Renters Bill. The surveyed 2,000 plus private tenants were not familiar with the content of the Bill.
It claims to abolish section 21. It says that it will create a new “decent home” standard for the private rented sector, and a new Ombudsman for private landlords. Unsurprisingly, results showed that 83% of renters have not read the Bill. What is surprising is that “69% thought the sector needed reform.”
Also, “61% had their concern for tenant rights raised after reading the Bill”. In particular, 60% of respondents considered section 21 elimination as something that would provide them with more security and stability. And, Greycoat adds, 40% seemed to feel it enhances their interaction with the new Ombudsman.
However, people remain skeptical, and the agents at the Greycoat real estate agency are aware of this situation. Forty-two percent think it would not change anything in the sector (Bisnow).
And thirty-seven percent doubt it will happen at all. Dr. Jennifer Harris from the TDS Group suggests the rental and political vital reforms may be the most radical since Thatcher’s changes of 1988 and emphasizes the huge necessity of making renters more powerful each time, Greycoat real estate agency finally adds. Therefore, the TDS charity aims to educate renters, enable them to change landlords’ behavior for the better and improve the rental sector.
