Sports Illustrated CEO vision Ross Levinsohn has been ranked one of the 100 most powerful people in sports. He is credited as the executive who oversaw and grew a company into a powerhouse that now includes 25 international sites and four different websites.
He was hired by SI in 2009 to help grow its digital division, and less than seven years later, he helped produce a video game called ‘Powered Up’ that sold 1.5 million units worldwide. He also oversees the company’s multimedia content.
Levinsohn has continued to rise the ranks of the sports industry, starting from the bottom and taking over CBS’ production of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. In 2011, Levinsohn was promoted to President for CBS Sports Digital, where he oversaw CBS’ most visited websites and produced CBSSports.com’s mobile apps.
Before his roles at CBS and Sports Illustrated CEO, Levinsohn worked at Fox Interactive Media, where he helped create the FoxSports.com brand and served as president of Fox Sports Interactive Media Group.
Levinsohn has won several awards which include the national award for interactive media excellence as well as a Telly Award in 2010 for his work with CBS on March Madness.
He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1989.
His first job is at Fox Sports, where he spent 15 years working his way up the ladder as a producer and assignment manager. He left Fox Sports in 2004 to become an executive at Yahoo! Sports. In 2005, Levinsohn was hired by Fox Interactive Media as its president of strategic planning and business development, where he brought on the company’s sports division.
Levinsohn helped launch FoxSports and negotiated the acquisition of Scout and Rivals. In addition to his sports experience, Levinsohn has also worked on the creative side of TV, having directed commercials for ABC and Fox.
Levinsohn has been nominated for an Emmy Award and a Pro Bowl as well as named one of the top 100 Most Powerful People in Sports.
