Shelton Haynes Leads Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation in Community Development
The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation’s current president and CEO is Shelton Haynes. Under his direction, the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC) has made much progress in developing and reviving Roosevelt Island, a small hamlet in the East River between Manhattan and Queens.
One of Haynes’s most notable projects is the Riverwalk area, which is on the water and has high-end apartments, retail space, and public amenities. With the support of multiple developers, the project was finished, and it has been praised as RIOC’s biggest success to date. The Riverwalk project’s goal, a partnership between RIOC and developers, was to improve the region by adding new homes and businesses. Under Haynes’s direction, RIOC was able to finish the project and turn it into a lively new neighborhood for Roosevelt Island inhabitants.
Haynes is a recognized leader in the community, and people have said kind things about how hard he works to make life better for the people who live on Roosevelt Island. He has prioritized including community members when making choices and has pushed to ensure that RIOC is accountable and open to the people it serves.
Haynes has helped bring new recreational possibilities to Roosevelt Island in addition to his work with RIOC. He just said he wants to introduce pickleball to the island, a popular activity that blends tennis and ping pong. Haynes thinks the new pickleball courts will give people something pleasant and good to do for a long time.
Haynes also said he wants to establish a big center for young people on Roosevelt Island. Children and teens can learn, play, and grow in a safe and helpful place at the center. It will provide various services and programs like after-school activities, mentoring, and job training to help young people grow.
Shelton Haynes is a leader who wants Roosevelt Island and its people to have a brighter future. His vision for the island is for it to continue expanding and changing, focusing on establishing people-led and sustainable initiatives. With Haynes in charge, RIOC will do much better in the coming years.
