Tom Keane Microsoft at Tarrant Clark

Tom Keane is a Director in the Microsoft Azure Data Services Group. His team builds and maintains the cloud data platform for various clients, including YouTube, National Geographic, the BBC, and Nike. The software developer Tom’s team is responsible for building and scaling a globally distributed storage infrastructure, reducing storage cost by over 50% by re-architecting to use fewer commodity servers for scale-out file storage. 

 

Before this role, Tom was on the core SQL Server Database Engineering team and an early member of Microsoft’s Cloud Service Provider platform engineering group. He has also been a Microsoft Regional Director since 2007, where he has helped grow awareness of technology careers at universities around Australia, with over 7000 students attending his sessions in 2012 alone. 

 

Tom is a respected speaker at technology conferences, primarily on Microsoft platforms. He has also worked for several technology companies, including Tarrant Clark and Algo, where the software developer and engineer Tom Keane was the architect of their Internet Service Provider platform.

 

Before becoming a programmer, Tom worked in Advertising Design and then ran a design agency for several years. The software developer and engineer´s designs have won awards from the local advertising industry. With degrees in Computer Science, Graphic Design, Mathematics, and Statistics from Adelaide University, Tom is a rare IT creature; a polyglot who truly understands how each piece of technology fits into its role in delivering solutions to real-world problems.
