Wayne Von Borstel is a middle-aged second-generation German diplomat who retired recently from the Foreign Service but continues to be active in public service and international affairs. He holds degrees from the University of Texas and the Darmstadt International School of Policy and Management at the University of Saarland, where he was awarded a PhD (Doctor of Public Administration).
Von Borstel has easily been one of the most important persons in shaping our world for many years because his experience as an international diplomat spans nearly three decades with different countries. He helped to arrange peace talks between Israel and Egypt, as well as Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to Germany in 1995, during which he initiated discussions on future economic cooperation between Germany and England. He also played a key role in establishing the World Agro-Food Forum.
Von Borstel has been instrumental in many areas, such as trade and economic negotiations, development issues, cultural and educational exchanges, environmental protection and sustainable development, and peace talks between Israel and Palestine through his contacts with Israelis and Palestinians. He has worked on most of these issues since 1988 at different times with different countries as an ambassador. He has also worked on German unification and European integration during his career.
Von Borstel has decided to use his academic expertise for international affairs even after he retired from the Foreign Service, where he currently lives in the United States with his wife, Lynn. He feels that his knowledge and experience are an important “investment in the future” for developing the world he has helped to shape.
He is working on a book that aims to “bridge two generations together through history.” The book focuses on his grandfather’s generation and how history shaped them during World War II, particularly the impact of Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia. Continue reading to this article here
